9/11 Remembrance Gathering

Please come and join your fellow firefighters and emergency medical colleagues who are gathering for a short, informal remembrance to honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who died at the World Trade Center on 9/11/01.

Where: Maryland Fire-Rescue Memorial, 101 Calvert Street, Annapolis, MD

Date and Time: September 11, 2023 starting at 9:58 a.m., the time the South Tower collapsed and concluding at 10:28 a.m., when the North Tower came down killing a total of 343 FDNY members that day.

Who: This informal gathering is for firefighters, emergency medical personnel, first responders and their families as well as members of the public who wish to pause to remember the 343 firefighters who died at the WTC on 9/11/01.

Parking: Gott Garage, with entrances on Calvert Street and Northwest Street, one and one-half blocks from the Maryland Fire-Rescue Memorial.

Dress: Casual attire, weather appropriate or uniform consistent with the guidelines of your fire department or fire company.

Seating: No seating will be provided. Stand or bring a chair or a cushion to sit on for the brief gathering.

Rain Date: We will gather as scheduled, rain or shine, unless there is a hazardous weather warning for wind, lightning, a hurricane or a tornado.

Please keep in mind that this is simply a gathering to honor 343 FDNY heroes. It is not an official event or sponsored by any organization. There will be no road closures, traffic diversions or arrangements to accommodate apparatus at or near the Maryland Fire-Rescue Memorial site.

After the gathering disperses, participants can make their way downtown to the Mission BBQ 9/11 observance at 12 noon on Dock Street. In the past, Mission BBQ has offered sandwiches to fire and police personnel. If you go, please support Mission BBQ by purchasing your drink in a "Hometown Heroes" cup. The funds are used by Mission BBQ support local fire, police and military organizations.
